South African Artist Esther Mahlangu

In Art this term we looked at the South African Artist Esther Mahlangu. She creates traditional African patterns and they are displayed on every day objects such as houses or cars. We decided to use her style of work and create our own prints.

First we created a study of her work. Using this we designed our own tiles. Our designs we quite complex so we decided to simplify these and create a final design. Once they were ready we had a go at printing using ink and rollers. Our prints were great but we though we could improve on our work, using what we now knew we created a design for a second tile and had a go at printing using these. Having already had a go at printing we knew to keep our designs simple and that we should use too much ink. Our final pieces became part of a whole class art work which we hope you will agree looks fantastic!
