Half Term Challenge – October 2017
Please click on the link below to find the half term challenge sheet. Don’t forget to bring in evidence and your passport if you have completed any challenges and would like to collect the learning hours.
Don’t forget to make sure that you have completed at least 10 hours of new learning for each award. The challenges can go towards this.
Following the assembly led by Debbie Bird – manager of Essex Children’s University, we have had a number of new members, which is great. I am still waiting for a delivery of passports so will pass these on when I get them. For those students who have not yet got a physical passport, please collect hours on the provisional passport sent out and hours can also be added to the e-passport for which a login was given.
Thank you for your continued support with Children’s University, supporting your children to collect hours towards their graduations.
I attended a Children’s University conference yesterday and would like to bring to your attention the following:
- There is a writing competition open to all children, but if your child is a member of the Children’s University, then they can be awarded 3 hours – they will need to send the stories in and then the confirmation will be sent home with a slip that can be stuck in the passports. Attached is the bookmark from Essex Book Festival for the story writing competition. This competition closes in February 2018 and will be judged in March 2108. The link for this competition is http://essexbookfestival.org.uk/flash-fiction/
- If you have music lessons in school time, then you may collect one hour per half term for your passport.
- A child can log on hours of learning time for attending an afterschool club – please remind your children that they will need to take their passport to each session to get it signed.
- Home learning – from half term, children can gain hours of learning by completing the optional homework tasks. If your child wishes to add any hours, then they will need to being their completed home learning, along with their passport to Mrs. Edwards for validation and a stamp.
- If you have not already done so, then please sign up to receive the newsletter from Essex Children’s University which provides regular updates on latest Learning Destination and other Children’s University news. Please email email@example.com
- Essex Children’s University also have a facebook page and a twitter account where you can share your child’s learning: www.facebook.com/essexchildrensuniversity www.twitter.com/EssexCU
- Don’t forget to keep an eye out on the Essex Children’s University website and the Notley Green website for new and exciting opportunities your child can be involved with – including holiday challenges, activity packs and the like.
- New partnerships with the Children’s University include ‘The Wonder Why Society’ www.thewonderwhysociety.co.uk and The Cambridge Science Centre
- Date for dairies: on the 24th March 2018 there will be a science day at Anglia Ruskin University
- Graduation dates are being organised for the year – as soon as I have details, I will pass these on
- Please can your child bring in their passport by WEDNESAY 1st NOVEMBER 2017 so that I can confirm the hours gained – I have noticed that some e-passports need updating to include all hours gained. Please can you also confirm below what the last certificate was that your child achieved.
Many thanks to Debbie and Sally from Essex Children’s University who came to lead an assembly in September.
Don’t forget to hand your forms back to the office if you wish to become a member of the Children’s University. More passports are on their way, but you can start collecting hours straight away using a provisional passport along with your e-passport.

Some parents are finding some learning destinations seem to have ‘disappeared’ from the site. Please see the message below from Sally Welsh –
|Changes to Learning Destinations
Sally Welsh, Essex Children’s University, 24 October 2016
|We are having a bit of a tidy up of the ePassport system to make things easier in the long run. We’ve put all of our activities that require your child to join or you can’t just drop in to such as dance schools, football clubs, karate clubs, etc under one big Learning Destination called ‘Essex Children’s University Learning Partners’.
So… when you select ‘My Area’ in the ‘Where did the activity Take place?’ drop down box you’ll find Essex Children’s University Learning partners. Select this and then in the ‘What activity was it?’ drop down box you’ll find your activity listed.
All the Essex Guide Units (which will include Guides, brownies and Rainbows) are listed under ‘Guide Units in Essex’ and then under each division. There are fewer Scout Groups so these can be found under ‘Scout Groups in Essex’ and are just listed.
Please let us know if you experience any problems.
